Study Abroad

Because the world is becoming increasingly interdependent both economically and politically, Italian majors are strongly encouraged to study abroad for at least one semester or summer during their Dominican careers. Study abroad offers students the unique and important opportunity of living and studying in a foreign culture and developing global awareness that is invaluable to future professionals. Italian In 1928, Dominican became one of the first universities in the United States to sponsor study abroad programs. Today Dominican offers a semester- or year-long program in Milan and a summer program in Florence.

Teaching Certification

The Italian program offers courses leading to a secondary teaching certificate, which qualifies the graduate to teach in the Illinois public and private school systems.

Internships

The internship program at Dominican has successfully placed students in a number of organizations. Students apply concepts learned in the classroom to real-world settings by working with professionals in a variety of organizations. In some cases, the internship experience also permits students to earn a stipend while gaining experience in the field and earning college credit.

Club and Honor Society

The Italian Discipline sponsors an Italian Club (CIAO), which hosts a variety of events that highlight the culture of Italy. Dominican also has a chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha, the national Italian honor society. Students at Dominican University who meet academic qualifications may become members.
