Special Programs

Service Learning

Students in theology or pastoral ministry are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences service learning program. Several courses in the offerings are specifically designed as service learning courses. In addition, students may earn one credit hour, which may be added to any courses in theology or pastoral ministry by arranging with the instructor to spend 30 hours of service at any number of approved sites. Through reflection papers, a journal or some other appropriate means, students relate their service experience to classroom learning.

Theological Reflection

Pastoral ministry students are encouraged to participate in theological refection groups that are available each semester. Such groups offer participants the opportunity to reflect theologically on their lives and ministry. This experience also contributes to the community experience that is essential to ministry.

Religion and Culture

This popular theology course, offered each spring, culminates in a two-week service trip to Montana that introduces students to the riches of Native American religion and culture and offers the opportunity to work with natives on a project that will benefit reservations.

Internships

Through internships, pastoral ministry students are able to advance their skills in a setting already familiar to them or in a new pastoral area. Designed to meet the needs of the particular student, internships may bring the student to a parish, an archdiocesan or other agency, or clinical pastoral experience in a hospital. Throughout the internship the faculty supervisor and the internship site coordinator communicate to make the experience beneficial to the student. Through internship experiences that are not affiliated with any religious tradition, students may possibly earn a stipend as well as academic credit.
