Internship Program

The internship program at Dominican has successfully placed students in a number of organizations. Students apply concepts learned in the classroom to the real world setting, working for professionals in a variety of organizations. In many cases, the internship experience also permits students to earn a stipend while gaining experience in the field and earning university credit. When internship opportunities arise, companies look to Dominican to find students to fill these positions because they have been so well
satisfied with their performance in the past.

Recent internship companies for Dominican students include:

Abbott Laboratories
Argonne National Laboratory
ASAP Software
Accenture/Andersen Consulting
EDI Group
Hewitt Associates

Computer Science Club

The Computer Science Club conducts field trips to visit computer sites
several times a year and invites experts to speak on computer related topics. Members are encouraged to join the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), one of the most prestigious organizations in the computer science field. Club members offer tutoring to students. Members are also encouraged to participate in the activities of the Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA). ACCA events expose students to what their peers from other area colleges are doing in computer science. ACCA also sponsors an annual computer programming contest.

Computer Facilities

Dominican has several computer classrooms and laboratories. Computers are primarily the latest Pentium processors and are networked for Internet access. There are also Macintosh computers available. Several operating systems are available on campus. All students have access to the Internet and email accounts. The student residence halls are also networked. Most computer courses are offered in computer classrooms and include an applied hands-on component.
The labs and classrooms feature a variety of software including Microsoft Office, statistical software, Web development tools and programming anguage environments. With faculty offices located in proximity to the
primary computer laboratory, the computer science faculty members are readily available to answer questions and offer suggestions.

Honor Society

Dominican University has its own chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon, the
national mathematics honor society, which recognizes students’
achievements in mathematics. By the spring semester of sophomore year, students may be eligible for election to full or associate membership in this society. Students in Kappa Mu Epsilon present papers to their peers from all over the country at national and regional conventions, provide peer tutoring for Dominican students, and participate in other social and mathematical activities at the local and regional level.
