Special ProgramsInternship ProgramThe internship program at Dominican has successfully placed students in a number of organizations. Students apply concepts learned in the classroom to the real world setting, working for professionals in a variety of organizations. In many cases, the internship experience also permits students to earn a stipend while gaining experience in the field and earning university credit. Computer Science ClubThe Computer Science Club provides a forum and outlet for students interested in computer technology. In this context, the club conducts field trips to visit computer sites and invites experts to speak on computer-related topics. Members are encouraged to join the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), one of the most prestigious organizations in the computer science field. Members are also encouraged to participate in the activities of the Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA). ACCA events expose students to what their peers from other area colleges are doing in computer science. ACCA also sponsors an annual computer programming contest. Dominican students have won trophies at this contest for the last three years. Honor SocietyDominican University has its own chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society, which recognizes students’ achievements in mathematics. By the spring semester of sophomore year, students may be eligible for election to full or associate membership in this society. Students in Kappa Mu Epsilon present papers to their peers from all over the country at national and regional conventions, provide peer tutoring for Dominican students, and participate in other social and mathematical activities at the local and regional level. Career OptionsThe mathematics and mathematics and computer science majors provide students with flexible career options in areas of high demand. While some Dominican graduates pursue graduate studies, others pursue work in many diverse fields.
