Course Description and Objectives

MANAGEMENT (BAD 345) is an introduction both to management theories and applications.  We will highlight traditional management activities and issues then integrate these topics into today’s organizations in the following areas;

Assignments and Evaluation

The fundamental activity to succeed in the course will be participation and class attendance.  The ability to integrate YOUR OWN LEADERSHIP STYLE and the appropriate strategies will play an important part in the development of this course.  These factors will create a strong foundation for your success in this class and in the business world.

05 points         ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED (Professor must be notified prior to missing a class.)

 

10 points         CLASS PARTICIPATION

 

20 points         MANAGEMENT IN THE NEWS  This will consist of four (4) current articles from newspapers, magazines, internet, intranet, and lectures etc.  You will analyze the article in a one (1) page typewritten summary.  Hard copy of the article must be attached.  This article will be presented individually to the class in a professional manner.  Specific Management topics for the articles will be given at a later date.   Each article summary and presentation is worth 5 points.

 

50 points         CHAPTER CASE APPLICATIONS  Each chapter has a Case Application that will be completed individually or in small groups and be presented to the class in a professional manner.  This assignment will include both written and oral communication skills and will be delivered on a weekly basis.  Each chapter case application is worth 3 points.

 

15 points         Final Exam

 

GRADING

Final grades are based on a standard 100 point scale.

A                     90-100

B                     80-89

C                     70-79

D                     60-69

F                      Below 60

Syllabus will be reviewed on the first day of class, at that time changes may be made.
