Class meets: Wednesdays, 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Office Hours: I am on campus daily from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Please feel free to make an appointment to meet with me at any time regarding any questions you might have regarding course material.
Required Materials: Mondy, Noe, Premeaux, Human Resource Management, 10th edition, Pearson Prentice Hall, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey: 2008.
Course Overview: Human Resource Management examines the critical importance of managing the most valuable asset found in any organization: its people. Small businesses as well as global corporations rely on the efforts of individual people in order to meet organizational objectives. How are individual’s skills matched with job specific needs? How is performance evaluated and compensated for? How are individuals trained and developed to maximize their potential? How do businesses create work environments that keep employees happy and motivate them to exceed expectations? These are some of the issues that will be discussed to help students gain a better understanding of the importance and complexity of managing people.

Instructional Methods
This course will be taught in lecture and discussion format. Students will be expected to read class assignments in advance as outlined in the course calendar and be prepared to participate in class discussions.

Exam #3 (final) 15 points
A course grade of:
A will be earned 90-100 points
B will be earned 80-89 points
C will be earned 70-79 points
D will be earned 60-69 points
F will be earned 59 points or below
Late papers will not be accepted.
CLASS PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE
Class participation is critical to enhance the learning experience of all students. Therefore, participation is required and earns 10% of the total grade. While there may be times when absences cannot be avoided, attendance is required to fully grasp class content.
Other Requirements: Additional readings may be provided in the form of handouts. Students may be asked to complete self assessments prior to class. Details will be discussed in class, as appropriate.
Plagiarism – i.e., the use of another’s words and/or ideas without attribution – to any degree will result in a failing grade on the assignment – and, possibly, failure of the course. All instances of plagiarism will be reported to the Dean.
All class materials will be posted on MyDU. This syllabus is subject to change.
