The Art of Understanding: Diversity, Culture & Community
explores the notion that understanding
the lives and viewpoints of others is necessary to be fully
invested in the world as a responsible citizen. Students will
attempt to understand and then represent others through projects
in various media including writing, collage, drawing, audio
and photgraphy. We will explore how artists from different
eras and cultures have represented others and examine how
the artists' personal values, beliefs and cultural backgrounds
shaped their perceptions.
No art
background is necessary. This course is for sophomores only.
