Final Assignment - Web Portfolio

Update - You can find my weblog here. Remember that all reading journals are now to be done on your blog.

Over the course of the semester we will be studying the travels of many different people - contemporary, historical, personal, and even imaginary! At the end of the semester, we will put four of these accounts together into a web portfolio using blogging software. You will write an introduction and index page, then link to the four additional pages. In each case, the goal will be to write or analyze a journey, then place a web-presentation of it onto your blog. The four main parts will be:

  1. Your personal travel narrative.
  2. The imaginary journey of an outsider into your community.
  3. "One life" from the Silk Road
  4. A group/individual from Takaki

You also need to write an Introduction by the time the assignment is due, on 4/30.

In each case we will follow the same pattern. Write the narrative. Present the narrative to the class. Turn in the written form to me. Get it back with criticism/commentary. Then develop it for the web (including pictures, maps, music, videos, or anything else helpful).

Grade

The final project is worth 20% of your grade. You will receive an F if you do not complete all four parts. Each part is otherwise worth 25% of the final grade.
