GSB 624 ORGANIZATIONAL
ANALYSIS AND DESIGN (Online)

Course Description
This is an
online course that is conducted over eight weeks through the
University’s online course management program Blackboard. The course is an analysis of the phenomena and theories of
large, complex, formal organizations. The course examines the organization as
an economic, social, bureaucratic and political system with regard to such
factors as structure, change and decision making. There are no prerequisites.
After registering for the course the student must also enroll on the course Blackboard site that can be accessed on the
University's webpage at http://www.dom.edu/mydu.
Course Goal
The goal of the course is to familiarize students with
classical and modern organizational theory including organizational design
models suitable to different types and purposes of organizations.

Lectures
There will be
weekly online voice over power point lectures covering each of the assigned
textbook chapters.
Case Reports
Each week a one or two page case report is to be submitted by
email on the weekly assigned case. The outline to be followed in writing the
report and the rubric that will be used to grade the report can be found in the
COURSE DOCUMENTS section of the course Blackboard
site.
Online Discussions
Each week students will have the opportunity to discuss
online the assigned case with their classmates.
They will be required to post a new item (thread) and respond to two
postings from other students.
Term Paper
Students are required to submit a 6 to 8 page term paper
based on an analysis of their present organization or another organization of
their choosing. The paper should conform to the standards of the American
Psychological Association (APA) for research papers. There is a rubric in the
COURSE DOCUMENTS section of the course Blackboard
site that will be used to grade the paper The paper should at a minimum include

Tests
There will be weekly online tests of the textbook material and a
final examination.
Organization of Course and Assignments
The course has weekly
assignments as posted on the course Blackboard
site. These assignments include textbook readings, voiceover power point
lectures, a brief written analysis of a case, online discussion with other
students about the case with postings on the Blackboard Discussion Board and weekly online objective tests of
the reading material. There will be an orientation to the course on campus in
Grading Policy
